On doing less, better

#work#habits

I keep relearning the same lesson: a short list finished beats a long list started. This week I cut my to-dos to three things a day and, somehow, more of what mattered actually happened.

It feels paradoxical. Cutting your list shouldn’t make you produce more — except the long list was never an honest plan. It was a wish, a way of pretending I had not yet chosen what to do. Three items forces the choice.

Maybe ambition isn’t the problem. Maybe it’s the quiet refusal to choose.

The trick, I’m finding, is to write the three down the night before. By morning the decision is already made — my future self just has to start.

What I’m trying next

Nothing original here. But knowing a thing and doing it are, as ever, two different jobs.
